Easy Ideas For Halloween Party Food

Made up a batch of biscuits following your favorite recipe or using a mix. Shape spiders by creating a golf ball sized "body" and then roll out thin ropes of the dough to form the legs. Arrange on a baking sheet and lightly brush with milk or beaten egg. If you want, you can further decorate your spiders with raisins, poppy seeds, sesame seeds or chopped nuts. You can use aluminum foil rolls under the legs to hold them up during baking. Bake following you recipe or package directions watching to make sure that smaller items are not getting too brown.

Wild Worms and Eyes

This is simply spaghetti and meatballs. Cook an unusual noodle that you do not normally serve (maybe linguini or angle hair). When done toss in your favorite red pasta sauce and place on serving platter. Add warm meatballs and serve. You can make this spookier by tossing the noodles in a dark green pesto sauce or even in a creamy white Alfredo sauce.

Rice Cereal Creatures

Now I usually shy away from doing "sweet" party food as there is so much candy around for Halloween, but if you want a fun way that kids can help with a party this is the best. Make a batch of rice cereal and marshmallow squares, only don't press them into a pan. Instead ask the kids to help you and create goblins, trolls, snakes, anything they want. Use small candies or frosting to add details such as red eyes or stripes. Place on foil lined baking sheet and refrigerate until firm. These make wonderful items for centerpieces on your buffet or Halloween table.

Dishwasher Help - White Film on Dishes

White film may form on glassware and dishes when using phosphate-free dishwasher detergent.

Dishwashing detergents are phasing in a new phosphate-free formula to comply with various EPA regulations that became effective July 1, 2010. This switch to the new formula has been gradually happening since late 2009 and is continuing to the present.

Phosphates are added to dishwasher detergents to remove minerals from the water and thus improve dishwasher performance. Many detergents that do not include phosphates in their formula tend to leave mineral deposits on glassware, plastic items, pots and pans. It also causes poor wash performance and many complaints.

The deposits are in the form of a white film on glassware and other items, even the interior of the dishwasher itself. The white film is often mistaken to be a problem with the dishwasher instead of the detergent. All phosphate-free dishwasher detergent formulas appear to have this issue. Some appear to have this problem more than others.

Testing has shown that packs and tablets perform better than some powder or gel detergents.

If a white film develops on glassware, then we can safely assume that phosphate-free detergent is the problem.

The easiest way to remove the white mineral film or build-up is to run the glassware and dishware through a dishwasher cycle using citric acid additive. There is a citric acid kit made by GE. The part no. is WD35X151. Pour the mixture in the detergent cup and close the cover and let it disperse normally in the dishwasher cycle.

Place the glassware and dishware in the dishwasher. Remove silverware and other metal items out of the dishwasher and run the cycle with the additive. Turn the dishwasher on and let it run through a cycle with the citric acid and without detergent. The dishes and glassware should come out sparkling.

Dishwasher manufacturers are working to resolve the phosphate-free filming issue but the problems are likely to be with us for a long while. Dishwasher owners may want to repeat the citric acid rinse several times a year to reduce the mineral buildup on dishes.

The apartment might cost between sixty and one hundred twenty-five dollars, the single story home between eighty and one hundred and fifty, and the two story home between one hundred and two hundred dollars per visit. Regular cleaning usually secures a significant discount. You may also encounter services that offer package deals - three, five, or seven hour one time services for your area and type of home. House cleaning prices will vary by the area, too. Different parts of the country have different average home sizes and cleaning times, changing how much a service costs.

Typical services include dusting, vacuuming and scrubbing counter tops, sinks, floors and the hood over the stove. However, doing the dishes by hand, picking up items left on the floor, and other services won't be done, and must be performed before the cleaning service gets there.

Some services will change bed linen and load dishwashers, and they generally provide all their own tools and cleaning products. Cleaning windows and walls is not usually included, and cleaning an oven or refrigerator can add about twenty-five dollars to your bill. Dusting blinds and other surfaces will also be an additional fee.

Professional house cleaning can be necessary for many reasons, and is a great choice in many situations. However, it's important to know what you'll be paying going in - after all, no one likes to be surprised with a large bill. Find out well in advance whether you'll be paying a little or a lot for your cleaning.

Rock salt may be a popular international commodity, but it's use at home is often limited to deicing the driveway and making frozen desserts by hand. Children are often curious about the use of this common "ingredient" to make ice cream, but the trick is not a culinary secret. Actually, the use of salt to make frozen treats is based on a simple chemical property: when salt is mixed with water, water freezes at a lower temperature. This means that a heat-conducting surface (like a metal can) may be cooled to below freezing simply be adding salt into an ice or water bath.

Lowering the temperature of a heat-conducting surface is not important to keep the food frozen, but rather to freeze a liquid in a uniform way, producing the creamy texture of ice cream with an even freeze throughout.

How Much Rock Salt Is Needed

It actually takes quite a bit of salt to freeze ice cream. Salt and ice must constantly be added to the ice bath, in order to keep the temperature low and transport heat away from the ice-cream itself. As the ice melts, the temperature remains cool, but additional ice speeds the freezing of the ice cream. Several containers of rock salt may be necessary, depending on how much ice cream is being made. After all, one batch of homemade ice cream is never enough.

What To Do With Extra Salt

The good news is that the water can be reused. In fact, salty water can stretch the life of a cleaning detergent, or even be used in a salt bath. After all, a variety of bath products include salt in order to facilitate the breakdown of the chemicals within bath water. Extra salt water may be used to clean floors (as a pre-detergent rinse), deice a driveway, or prepare a piece of property for construction, as it tends to eliminate the growth of plants.

Clearly, there are plenty of uses for this natural resource, even after it's been used to make frozen, dairy desserts.

Baby Safety and Safety Gates - A Guide to Child Proof Your Household for Babies and Toddlers

A few years ago, after placing the family evening meal on the table and commencing to sit down to eat, our four year old boy decided that running around the coffee table would be a great pre-dinner game. According to Kidsafe (an independent foundation dedicated to preventing unintentional death or injury among children throughout Australia), 'young children under the age of five years are most at risk of unintentional injury, and account for around half of all child injury deaths'. So how can risk of injury in the house be avoided or reduced? The best way is by "baby-proofing" the home by assessing risk areas and installing appropriate safety devices.

Corners and Edges Safety - I don't know many children that haven't hurt themselves on the corner of a table. 2. Inline Freezers

These normally constitute a single belt or multi belt application, the air is blown horizontally across either a plastic or metal conveyor belt. Some specialist applications use stainless steel bands. Inline freezers are used for capacities up to approximately 400 Kg/Hr, with a product density of up to 6 Kg/m2. It is worth mentioning at this point that with this size of installation it is common to use direct expansion, single stage refrigeration plates. This type of refrigeration plant is relatively cheap, and uncomplicated. These type of freezers are used in developing countries, and have been much sought after within the respective Fishing Industries.

3. Spiral Freezers

The Spiral Freezer is a device which utilises a collapsible belt, so instead of having a long straight conveyor, a conveyor belt of considerable length is wrapped around a drum. This drum rotates, giving a friction edge drive to the belt. The Spiral freezer is used for product loadings of 2 Kg/m2 up to 10 Kg/m2, and in capacities of 400 Kg/Hr upwards. The Spiral freezers have been manufactured with belts in excess of one kilometre in length. The belt is supported and guided in a Helix around a rotating central drum. the belt tension increases as you go up the tiers exponentially to the eight tier, and thereafter attains a constant value. It is important that the tension in the system does not become too high. The advantage of the Spiral freezer is that it enables a high capacity to be achieved on a given factory floor area.

4. Boxafreeze

In considering the freezing of bulk packed meat products, the Boxafreeze is used commonly within the Meat and Poultry Industries. Boxed materials can be processed by contact plate freezers or air blast freezers. It is interesting to record, for instance, that different markets have evolved using the different methods, i.e. South Africa tends to use horizontal plate freezers, whereas New Zealand uses air blast freezers.

A typical freezing time for a poultry installation would be 3.5 hours, and some of the larger Boxafreeze installations are freezing in excess of 10 tonnes of chicken per hour on a continuous basis. The freezing time for a 150mm typical meat block would be in excess of 11 hours, this is why it is often considerably more desirable to use plate freezers instead of automatic Boxafreeze installations. The disadvantage of horizontal plate freezers is that they are generally a manual operation, whereas a sophisticated PLC control Boxafreeze is a fully automated in-line process machine.

It is worth noting that automatic horizontal plate freezers have been developed (Autoplate models), however are subject to high manufacturing costs compared to the standard horizontal plate freezer (cheapest) and Boxafreeze options.
